AFO & KAFO socks

The layer between the skin and the brace

An orthosis works best when the skin underneath is left alone. Kilde® AFO and KAFO socks give the brace a smooth surface to sit against, with the length to cover the whole contact area.

AFO & KAFO socks

The range

Two lines: a bamboo sock for standard ankle-foot and knee-ankle-foot braces, and a thicker seamless knee stocking where the shell needs more padding.

Kilde®

Kilde® Bamboo AFO / KAFO orthotic sock

The bamboo brace sock: long enough to cover the whole shell, smooth enough for it to slide.

Type:
Sock worn under an ankle-foot or knee-ankle-foot orthosis
Material:
Bamboo viscose with elastane

Why this product

  • Extra length so the sock covers the full brace contact area.
  • Smooth bamboo face lets the shell be put on and taken off without dragging skin.
  • Flat toe and non-binding cuff — no second pressure point under the straps.
  • Fine knit that does not change the fit of a fitted orthosis.

Kilde® · Item 99

Kilde® Bamboo AFO / KAFO orthotic sock

The bamboo brace sock: long enough to cover the whole shell, smooth enough for it to slide.

The problem

An ordinary sock stops below the top edge of an AFO, so the shell sits directly on skin at the point of highest load — with a toe seam and an elastic cuff trapped inside the brace.

Our answer

Extra length covers the full contact area, bamboo viscose gives the shell a smooth surface to slide against, and the flat toe and non-binding cuff remove the two pressure points a brace does not need.

Soft where it matters. Strong where it counts.

Unlike many ordinary bamboo socks, Kilde® bamboo socks are knitted using a premium cotton-core yarn wrapped with soft bamboo viscose. This unique construction means the bamboo fibres remain in contact with your skin, providing exceptional softness and moisture management, while the cotton core provides excellent durability, strength and long-lasting shape retention.

Key benefits

  • Bamboo against the skin for exceptional softness.
  • Cotton core for superior durability.
  • Better shape retention during daily use.
  • Excellent moisture management.
  • Naturally comfortable for sensitive feet.
  • Flat toe seam and non-binding cuff for pressure-free comfort.

Kilde® · Item 990

Kilde® Bamboo thick seamless knee stocking

A thicker, seamless-heel knee stocking for rigid braces that need padding.

The problem

The heel is where a rigid shell presses hardest, and a heel seam inside a brace becomes a pressure ridge within an hour.

Our answer

A seamless heel and a thicker knit give padding exactly where the shell loads, over a knee length that covers the full contact area.

Soft where it matters. Strong where it counts.

What matters in a brace sock

Length that covers the shell

A brace sock has to reach past the top edge of the orthosis. If it stops short, the plastic sits directly on skin at exactly the point where the load is highest.

A seam-free heel

The heel is where a rigid shell presses hardest. Our knee stocking is knitted with a seamless heel so there is no ridge to press into.

A cuff that does not add a second pressure point

The straps already apply pressure. The cuff is non-binding, so it holds the sock up without adding a tight ring of its own.

A surface the shell can slide against

Bamboo viscose gives a smooth face, which is what lets the brace be put on and taken off without dragging the skin with it.

Common questions

Can I wear an ordinary sock under an AFO?

Many people do, but an ordinary sock is usually too short to cover the top of the shell and has a toe seam and an elastic cuff sitting inside the brace. A dedicated brace sock removes those three things.

How often should the sock be changed?

Daily, and more often if the leg gets warm inside the brace. Follow the advice of the orthotist or clinician who fitted the orthosis.

Do you supply orthotic workshops and clinics?

Yes. Ordering runs through our B2B portal, and our team can advise on which line suits a given brace type.

Can an ordinary sock be used under an AFO?

It is common, but an ordinary sock is usually too short and brings a toe seam and an elastic cuff inside the brace. A dedicated brace sock removes all three problems.

How often should it be changed?

Daily, and more often if the leg gets warm inside the brace. Follow the orthotist's instructions.

When should the thick stocking be chosen over article 99?

When the brace is rigid and the fit allows the extra thickness, or when the heel is the problem area. Article 99 is the standard choice where the socket of the brace is tight.

These socks are a comfort textile worn with an orthosis. They are not a medical device and do not replace the fitting, adjustment or advice of your orthotist or clinician.
